Barcelona's Arc de Triomphe, an emblematic monument, stands at the confluence of Paseo de Lluís Companys, Paseo de San Juan and Ronda de San Pedro. It was designed by Josep Vilaseca i Casanovas as the main entrance to the Universal Exhibition of Barcelona in 1888.Unlike other triumphal arches commemorating military victories, this arch symbolizes the city's artistic, scientific, and economic progress.
Standing 30 metres high, the arch features a unique Neo-Mudejar style, combining exposed red brick with decorative elements inspired by Islamic architecture. This structure combines classicism with an air of modernity. The friezes and sculptural elements, the work of prominent sculptors, add artistic value to the monument. The frieze facing the Paseo de San Joan represents Barcelona welcoming the nations, while the later frieze, known as "The Reward", alludes to the distribution of prizes to the participants of the exhibition.
Today, the Arc de Triomphe is an essential historical and cultural landmark in Barcelona.
