La Ciudadella Park, located in the heart of Barcelona, is an urban oasis with a rich history and a vibrant atmosphere. Originally, the park was a military citadel built in the 18th century by Philip V, after the War of Succession. In 1869, General Prim ordered its demolition, ceding the land to the city on the condition of creating a public park.
Today, Ciudadella Park is a 17-hectare green space much appreciated by locals and tourists alike. It houses a wide variety of attractions, such as the Monumental Waterfall, designed with the collaboration of a young Antoni Gaudí.The lake, where you can take a boat ride, adds natural charm to the park.
In addition to its natural beauty, the park has historic buildings such as the Castell dels Tres Dragons, home to the Zoology Museum, and the Parlament de Catalunya, located in the old military arsenal. Sculptures by artists such as Frederic Marès and Josep Llimona adorn its gardens. The park is also home to the Barcelona Zoo.
The Ciudadella Park is an ideal place to relax, stroll, enjoy a picnic or participate in one of the cultural activities held throughout the year. Its combination of history, art and nature makes it an essential meeting point in Barcelona.
