Playa Ramírez is an iconic destination in Montevideo, Uruguay, renowned for being one of the most popular and busiest beaches in the city, especially during the summer. Its privileged location in front of Parque Rodó and the historic Casino Parque Hotel building (the current administrative headquarters of Mercosur) gives it a picturesque landscape that is easily accessible from the centre of the capital.
This coastal space offers white sands and generally calm and brown waters as it is fresh water of Rio, ideal for family enjoyment and various free recreational and sports activities, such as football, handball, volleyball, aerobic gymnastics and hiking. In addition, it has lifeguard services in spring and summer, and is one of the accessible beaches in Montevideo, with wooden walkways and bathrooms adapted in summer.
Playa Ramírez is also a cultural meeting point, being the main stage every February 2 for the celebration of the religious festival of Iemanjá, an event that attracts great tourist interest. Its vibrant surroundings, with the attractions of Parque Rodó and the promenade, make it a dynamic place for both daytime leisure and sunset walks.
Access to Ramirez Beach is public and free. During the summer season, the Municipality of Montevideo organizes various free sports and recreational activities on the beach, some of which may require prior registration, especially sports initiation schools for children and adolescents.
