Restaurante La Pondala

This famous restaurant in Gijón has been open for more than 100 years and is very popular in Asturias because its two star dishes have to be ordered in advance. It is called La Pondala and since 1891 it has been delighting thousands of palates with its Asturian beef roast and the Cantabrian lobster splash.I called to book and ordered both dishes to see if they're worth it.

Its traditional Asturian cuisine is executed with precision: roast beef with gratin puree, rice with clams, fabada, seasonal soup, lobster splash and local fish such as bonito or hake stand out. Other classics that never fail are homemade croquettes, corns and the Gijon almond cake.Sus guisos y arroces reflejan un firme compromiso con el producto local de calidad.

Está en una casona de piedra con más de 130 años de historia, con una estética clásica de vigas, madera y un patio ajardinado. Tiene varios comedores interiores y una terraza veraniega ideal para reuniones: un espacio versátil para todo tipo de público.

Sus dos platos estrella, el rosbif de ternera asturiana y el salpicón de bogavante del Cantábrico, hay que encargarlos con tiempo al reservar.
