About Mr. CHU
Mr. CHU is the latest genius born from the hand of Marcelo Tejedor, the chef behind the iconic Michelin-starred Casa Marcelo. Tucked away near Praza do Obradoiro, it moves away from the clichés of Galician seafood to an almost obsessive cult of tonkatsu, the Japanese-style breaded and fried pork chop.A specialized, fun and informal proposal that brings the technical demands of haute cuisine to an accessible format.
The menu revolves around a fixed and complete experience for €35. The heart of the menu is a pork chop selected for its infiltration of fat and juiciness, with an extremely crunchy and light panko and meat that is rosy and full of juices. It is served with cabbage in very fine julienne, rice, miso soup and the house tonkatsu sauce, with bittersweet and umami undertones.
It's on Rúa das Hortas, 25, and the entrance is camouflaged: this secret Tokyo-style tavern has a fascinating charm. As in the authentic izakayas, they do not accept reservations and are open from Tuesday to Saturday for lunch and dinner. One of the most exhilarating openings in Santiago in recent years.
Tips
They do not accept reservations: get there early or get ready to queue, and look for the door in Rúa das Hortas, because it is camouflaged.
